As you may know all foreign individuals who own assets, reside and/or work in Spain, are required by law to obtain an identification number (Numero de Identificacion de Extranjeros).

This number is issued by the local police authorities in the town/city where the person in question resides. Until the 31 December 2011 we have been able to obtain this number for clients by way of a notarial power of attorney without the need to have them come personally to Spain just to comply with these bureaucratic requirements.

The Spanish government has however changed the rules, and as from the 1st January 2012 it will no longer be possible for us to carry out the above task on behalf of clients through the use of a power of attorney. The individual persons concerned will need to be physically present when the application is lodged.

It is important to take the above into account because it could hold back your investments and/or work-business ventures considerably.

We as a firm are ready to help in any way we can by guiding you through the steps that are required. Our dedicated team, consisting of: Loli Vazquez (mdvazquez@asec.es) and Ana Ronco (aronco@asec.es) will take you through the steps you need to take.
